According to a Harvard School of Public Health
study, up to 20% of all large truck crashes are due to drowsy or fatigued driving, accounting for almost 9,000 fatalities and up to 220,000 serious injuries annually. Drivers with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who don’t adhere to treatment are 5X more likely to be involved in a crash.
Moreover, the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is currently considering mandating sleep apnea screening for truck drivers and requiring treatment for those with a positive diagnosis.
